Break my heart for what breaks yours

Korah.

Once again, my heart is on Korah.   I beg you to watch this and not be moved.

Mike and I have 4, 50 lb bags ready to go to Ethiopia already.   Full of boots and clothes for the people of Korah.   Full of supplies needed by our care center.   What little we're bringing for ourselves is fitting into our tiny little carry-on bags.

Today, I found out that Hands for the Needy could really use some books for their Sunday School curriculum.   And I'm over my baggage limit.

I want you to think for a minute.   Just a minute.   Think about the lowest of the low points in your life.   When you were so low you thought you'd never be able to crawl out of your hole.

Think about it.   Remember it.   Think about how you felt.   Were you worried about feeding your family?   Worried about losing your home?   Worried about losing your life?

Well, these people in Korah don't always have "homes" in the sense that we do.   They very often do not know where their next meal is going to come from.   They worry, every day. about losing their life.

What separates them from us?

It's simple.

Hope.

One small, simple word.

Hope.

You, at the lowest of the low points in your life, probably still had hope.   Hope that your circumstances would improve.   Hope that through the grace of God you would survive.   Hope that if you didn't, you were going to a heavenly kingdom.

In Korah, they don't have much hope.

This Sunday School curriculum will help bring them hope.   The boots and clothes we are bringing will help give hope.

Mike and I just need a teeny, tiny little bit of help to cover the extra bag fee (around $400).   Sometimes the airline is nice and will waive it because we are bringing humanitarian aid.   Sometimes they don't.

Sooooooo....if you can, donate a couple of bucks to the donate button on the right and help us get this hope to Korah.   Just make a note in the donation field that this money is to be used for Korah and not for our adoption.

If the airlines waive the extra bag fee, we will take the money to Ethiopia and help serve Korah in other ways.      They still need a washing machine and school uniforms.  Believe me, this money would  not be wasted in Korah.

So please, let's all rally together and give these people some hope.

  1. Hi Kelley,

just an FYI, coming off of three months of living in Addis, you can buy just about anything there (except benadryl, epipens, ciproflaxin, high quality pots and pans:-). I was surprised at how much there was to buy and how easy it was to get. Maybe it's a different brand, or different packaging, or a slightly different formulation, but you can get it:-) Rather than paying $400 in additional luggage fees, maybe look at what you're taking and leave some stuff here that is easy to get there and take specifics books that you don't think you can get over there...or bring more your second trip. The $400 in luggage fees will stretch A LOT further over there and I'd hate to see you waste your money on that...
